Nawaz Sharif’s mother Begum Shamim Akhtar dies in London
According to PML-N leader Ataullah Tarar, former Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif’s mother Begum Shamim Akhtar has died in London.
The development was confirmed by senior PML-N leader Ataullah Tarar, who announced the sad news on Twitter. Begum Shamim Akhtar was 90 years old.
He said, “The mother of Mian Nawaz Sharif and Mian Shahbaz Sharif has passed away.”
Sources in PML-N said that Begum Shamim Akhtar had been ill for a long time and was undergoing treatment in London.
She died this morning, according to party sources, at the Avefield apartment, where she was staying with Nawaz Sharif.
Begum Shamim Akhtar had been ill for the past one week and was in critical condition due to old age.
Talking to Geo News, Ataullah Tarar said that he spoke on the phone to Suleman Shahbaz, who confirmed his grandmother’s death and said that arrangements were being made to bring the body to Pakistan for burial.
He said that PML-N President Shahbaz Sharif and his son Hamza Shahbaz were informed about the death of Begum Shamim Akhtar. Tarar said that a request would be submitted to the court to allow Shahbaz and Hamza Shahbaz to be released on parole so that they could attend the funeral.
