PESHAWAR: A comprehensive traffic plan has been put in place to ensure a smooth flow of vehicles tomorrow (Sunday) during the Pakistan Democratic Movement (PDM) public rally in the city.

Senior Superintendent of Police (Traffic) Abbas Majeed Marwat said on Saturday that alternative routes have been identified and more traffic sergeants have been deployed to ensure that no road is blocked.

“16 mobile squads, 54 rider squads, and 16 forklift teams will be deployed on city roads to ensure smooth flow of traffic,” he said.

The police officer said that around 1,000 officers were deployed in Pali so that they would remain on the road round the clock. SSP Traffic asked the public to cooperate with the traffic police in keeping the traffic running.

The ring road from GT and Charsadda Road will remain blocked due to security reasons and the people of the area will have to take alternate routes via Northern Bypass, GT and Charsadda Road to reach their destination.

The official said entry of heavy vehicles into the city would be banned throughout the day, adding that the district police officers of the surrounding districts have also been told not to allow heavy traffic in Peshawar.

According to Abbas Majid Marwat, passengers will also be updated via social media and FM radio to reach their destination easily.

He asked the general public coming from Islamabad and Mardan on the motorway to take the GT road from Rashkai Interchange to reach Peshawar. He asked the passengers coming from Charsadda to take the Charsadda Road, while those coming from the southern districts were advised to use the Frontier Road near Matani as well as Inquilab Road at Scheme Chowk.

Those coming to attend the PDM rally have been asked to park their cars near Budni village. “People coming from the southern districts of the state will go to Ring Road from Garhi Qamardin or Inquilab Road from Scheme Chowk. Those who come via motorway will be diverted to reach the parking area from North Bypass Chowk,” he said.
