The United Arab Emirates (UAE) has reportedly provided financial support to the PKK militant group in the northern Kurdish region of Iraq.
Speaking to the London-based Al-Arbi Al-Jadeed newspaper, a security source from the Kurdish Territorial Government (KRG) noted that authorities had imposed limits on transfer of funds from the UAE.
The move was taken after the terrorist group received financial support from the United Arab Emirates in recent months.
Security sources in Erbil, who prioritized anonymity for security reasons, said that the UAE has asked the UAE to obtain “proof of approval” from security officials on money transfers to the region’s foreign exchange offices and bank accounts .
He said that a new measure is needed for money transfers of more than $ 1,000 and that the measure will be applied to all exchanges in Erbil, Duhok and Suleimaniyah.
