Pakistan will consider using dexamethasone to treat a critically ill corona patient: Dr. Zafar

ISLAMABAD – Dr. Zafar Mirza, Special Assistant to the Prime Minister on National Health Services, has said that a technical team in Pakistan will consider using dexamethasone medicine to treat seriously ill people with coronovirus infection.

In a tweet today (Wednesday), he reported that the World Health Organization (WHO) has welcomed the results of preliminary clinical trials from the United Kingdom that show dexamethasone can be a lifetime for patients who have COVID-19 Are seriously ill with

Dr. Zafar Mirza said that it is a chronic and inexpensive anti-inflammatory drug (steroid) and we have many producers in Pakistan.

The special assistant, however, warned that dexamethasone is only for critically ill COVID-19 patients who are on oxygen and ventilators.

He said that mild to moderate patients should not use the drug and that self-medication is strictly prohibited and can be dangerous as the drug has many side effects.
